On Monday I attended
the PEER/SCEC workshop on communication's and technical writing skills.
The information presented will be useful in writing my final report. There
was also a segment on how to use power point, which gave me some new ideas
for the Aug. 5th presentation.
This week I began my solo attempt to reconstruct meters 20-25 of the east
wall. TIm came to he office on Thursday and we went over what I had accomplished.
I had made some mistakes, which was inevitable. So I have spent most of
today fixing what I had done wrong. Tim also printed out the entire trench
log (so far) of the east wall. That way I can see what is going on at other
faults, that may be causing additional displacement/uplift in my reconstruction.
So before I began fixing the computer reconstruction, I reconstructed the
printed log. This took my a few hours, but I then had a guide as I readjusted
my reconstruction. That method helped me a lot because I had a view of
the entire trench, and not what parts the computer screen would view.
I have almost
completed my first reconstruction, there are a few finishing touches to
be added, etc. I still have one more event horizon that I am in disagreement
with, so I will need to discuss
this with Tim wen he returns Monday. This reconstruction will be completed
(hopefully) for my presentation. I intend to dissect the reconstruction
one step at a time to explain my logic and methods in obtaining the end
results.
I also began
to outline my presentation for next week. To give a short introduction
of the geology of the area, I begun re-reading Tom and Sally's paper. With
the information I have I should be able to give an overview to the site,
and then dive directly into discussing the reconstruction.
This week was a little rough; but I'm sure our intern meeting next week will be uplifting!
